Basic Setup for JOP Extension for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Before using Job Order Production (JOP), the following setup tables should be configured to align the system with your operational needs. Each component plays a specific role in supporting service-based production workflows.
JOP Setup
The central configuration table for enabling JOP features, defining default behaviors for all centers.
Responsibility Centers
Define organizational units (e.g., plants or branches) responsible for handling JOP orders. Useful for filtering sales orders, process orders and batches.
Customer Center Settings
Customer Center Settings allow you to define center-specific conditions for order processing based on individual center or customer requirements. These settings enable tailored defaults for pricing and shipping.
Services
Core business processes or value-added services that form the foundation of a JOP order. Services define how a job is structured and priced.
Products
The products in JOP are the customer-supplied tools or components that you receive for finishing or value-add processing. They're linked with the selected service and materials to form a complete job definition and can be tracked for status and return.
Materials
Materials in JOP refer to the material composition of the product that is being processed (e.g., aluminum, stainless steel, plastic). Material definitions help drive processing logic, pricing rules, and quality control requirements, as different materials may require different operations, tools, or surcharges.
Rule Conditions
Rule Conditions define Boolean expressions that are evaluated in the context of the current order. These expressions determine whether specific business rules apply — for example, adjusting pricing or process order structure — based on attributes such as customer, material, service, quantity, or custom properties.
JOP Items
Predefined combinations of service, material, and product that speed up order entry and ensure consistency. Can be customer-specific or general-purpose.
Routings
Used to define the sequence of operations for each process order. Routing drives execution and work confirmations.
Price Lists
Maintain multi-dimensional pricing schemes based on customer, service, material, quantity, or custom dimensions. Supports flexible pricing strategies.
Properties
Properties are custom, context-sensitive fields that appear dynamically on JOP orders. Besides capturing technical or customer-specific details, they can be referenced in pricing look-ups or rule conditions—letting you select the right price tier or automatically adjust a process order when certain property values are present.
Test Plan Templates
Templates for defining standard quality checks and measurements. Used to generate quality test plans for process orders requiring inspection or certification.
