Materials

The Material table defines what a Product is made of—such as tool steel, carbide, aluminum, or ceramic. It serves as a core classification element in the JOP extension and supports routing setup, service selection, pricing strategies, and documentation.

Materials informattion can serve as classification elements in price lists and routing rules to influence production parameters, and quality requirements.

Material Card Fields

The Material Card includes the following fields:

  • Code — A unique identifier for the material. Used for lookups and references in routings and pricing rules.
  • Description — The descriptive name shown in process documentation and on customer-facing documents.
  • Material Group Code — Categorizes the material into a logical group for reporting, pricing, or routing logic.
  • Blocked — Prevents the material from being selected or consumed in future transactions if set to true.

Material Properties

Materials can have associated properties—such as type, grade, hardness, or certification—which are maintained through the Key-Property table. These values can influence routing steps, quality requirements, and pricing.

Material Group Usage

Similar to Products and Services, each Material belongs to a Material Group. This allows centralized configuration of rules for:

  • Routing logic — Define processing steps based on material characteristics
  • Price rules — Apply group-level pricing structures
  • Process folder organization — Classify and document jobs involving specific material types

A best practice is to use Material Groups for internal process classification, and the individual Material records to reflect customer-specific item names or requirements.
